Simon Moyse (1855-1946) worked as a merchant in Donaldsonville and St. Gabriel, La., and then moved to Baton Rouge, where he became one of the city's leading retailers. His son-in-law, Leopold Sommer (d. 1932), served as president of the Baton Rouge store Sommers, Inc.
